Falling Star

This painting was created by layering using acrylic paint and mirror fragments. For the last twelve months I have been a little blocked creatively and in the next four posts I will share some of the art created during this period, This covers 2009 and early 2010. It was finished late 2009.

Art Workshops in 2009

In February I had the opportunity to facilitate a 2 hour workshop for a smal group of women who had experienced domestic violence. The session allowed participants to explore mixed media techniques and culminated with the oportunity to paint on silk and create some "wearable art".

In March and April I facilitated four Art workshops for Carer Support and Respite Centre RAW ENERGY. The participants were children betwen the ages of 7 and 12.
The photographs below capture some of the art activities that the children took part in.

Frida

This painting was inspired by the life and works of Frida Kahlo who I have been reading about the last month or so. It is a textured work using drawings with ink and collage. It was completed a couple of days ago.

Stillness

Stillness is painted in oils which is a new medium for me. I really enjoyed that the fact that I had a lot of time to push the paint around before it dried which was a welcome change from working with acrylic paints.

This work is still in progress. I just bought more acrylic paint today and got stuck into adding some vibrancy to this painting. Painted early December 2007 the title says it all. I think that "Life" and "Chaos" go hand in hand. A quote that I picked up recently from a public speaking competition that I attended, ties in really well with this " It is easy to complicate but difficult to simplify ". How true is that ?

Liberty

In August 2007 I spent time in the UK and France where I managed to see some great Art at the Tate Modern, National Gallery of London and the Musee D'Osay in Paris. For two months after I arrived back in Adelaide,I struggled to paint anything. Finally I got back the inspiration. "Liberty" is one of the paintings that I created in November 2007. It is a mixed media work on canvas and its dimentions are 1m x 1m . The main colours utilised are blue,silver and red. Like most of these pieces,each time you view the painting you something new in it. This painting sold mid January 2008 at Broadway Furniture, 70 Broadway, Glenelg.

This painting created itself middle of June as I prepared for the Launch of "The Creative Spirit". This was an exhibition that was held at Wilderness School and was a collection of Artworks produced by a group of people with memory loss who still live in the community. The workshops were facilitated by myself and ran from March till late June. The launch was very successful and was attended by about 80 people.

It went really well with about 60 people attending. It

I completed this painting in Late June 2006 using parts of one of my earlier painting and layers of acrylic paint. I mostly worked intuitively so this painting created itself. Ocean and Sun

This painting is small (46cmx46cm) for me. I usually prefer to work on much larger canvases. I began working on it at a painting demonstration at the Whitmore Square Artists Fair in April 2006 and finished it in my studio. I found the experience a tad disconcerting. This artwork reflects my passion for the ocean and the life giving warmth of the sun. I can understand why our ancestors worshipped the sun!
